In collaboration with West Kentucky Community and Technical College, the University of Kentucky- Paducah Campus offers students a cost-effective pathway to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering Technology, while remaining local. 

A cost-effective pathway

Students develop foundational skills and knowledge at a reduced rate while completing West Kentucky’s CET Associate in Applied Science degree. Upon receiving their degree, students can then seamlessly transfer to UK-Paducah to earn their Bachelors, increasing their earning potential considerably!   With the option of commuting to campus and reduced costs, students save significantly!  

Skills will you learn

  • Training in industry-standard practices for software, embedded systems, and advanced problem-solving.  
  • State-of-the-art problem-solving techniques for developing application code and firmware, including networking/web operations.  
  • Hardware focused on digital systems design, low-level gate design, microprocessors, and contemporary communication standards.  
  • Hands-on laboratory and classroom experiences for practical learning.   

Key curriculum features:  

  • Strong foundation in design, development, and maintenance.  
  • Focus on modern programming languages and industry-standard software development practices.  
  • Emphasis on networking, web operations, and application code/firmware creation.  
  • Training in digital systems design, from low-level gate design to advanced microprocessors.  

About the first 2 years at UK-Paducah

The first two years working towards UK Bachelors’ requirements, students earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Computer Engineering Technology (CET).  

The AAS in Computer Engineering Technology (CET) is the design & maintenance of digital systems. It also covers network development and testing, and basic database programming and maintenance. Along with the AAS Degree, students earn the following certificates.   

  •  A+ Prep 
  •  Net+ Prep 
  • Computer Tech Basic 
  • Informatics Programming 
  • Industrial Electrician Level I  

WKCTC will be your home institution until you complete all requirements for the Computer Engineering Technology AAS degree.  Once you fulfill the requirements for the AAS degree, you will apply to UK as a transfer student.

How to apply

If you are interested in applying, please begin by completing WKCTC’s admissions process.  

Once you’re able to illustrate you’ve completed or are in progress (enrolled/scheduled) to complete your AAS degree, you will need to complete UK’s Admission’s process.

Students are required to meet general UK Transfer GPA Requirements (minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA). This will include ALL attempted college coursework.

Once admitted, students will be contacted about UK-Paducah Orientation and Registration dates. For admissions questions, please contact Sarita Buchanan.

WKCTC - UK Paducah Computer Engineering Freshman (CET/CPT)

  1. Apply to WKCTC  (Select Computer Engineering Technology, Associate in Applied Science)
  2. Complete the FAFSA
  3. Complete Scholarship Applications:
  4. Complete WKCTC’s Enrollment Checklist  

 WKCTC will be your home college until you complete the requirements for an AAS degree.  

WKCTC CET AAS Graduates - UK CPT Bachelors Applicants

Once you’re able to illustrate you’ve completed or are in progress (enrolled/scheduled) to complete your AAS degree, you will need to complete UK’s Admission’s process.  

Students are required to meet general UK Transfer GPA Requirements (minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA). This will include ALL attempted college coursework.

  1. Complete UK’s Transfer Application. Students will choose Computer Engineering Technology as their major and select “Paducah Campus” under the Special Programs section of the UK application.

    Before applying, visit UK’s Transfer Website Transfer Tuesday dates (scroll down towards bottom). Application fees will be waived on these days.

  2. Complete the FAFSA.
  3. Complete Scholarship Applications

Please note: If you are transferring and have not completed your AAS degree through KCTCS, you may be required to complete courses through KCTCS. Please contact our CPT Coordinator to find out more!
